Collagen-Induced Arthritis (CIA and CAIA)
The Collagen-Induced Arthritis (CIA) model is induced by immunizing animals with collagen, leading to an autoimmune response. This immune challenge triggers an inflammatory reaction, resulting in the progressive destruction of joint cartilage and bone, mimicking the pathophysiology of rheumatoid arthritis. The CIA model is commonly used in rodents, particularly mice and rats, to study autoimmune arthritis and to evaluate potential therapeutic interventions.
